Volunteer leaders

H&DCYC provides young people with exciting and enjoyable outdoor holidays at an affordable price. To achieve this we need volunteer leaders, not only to help the campers, but to provide music, games, activities and administration. Being a holiday leader requires effort but is very rewarding  and great fun!

Child safety

To ensure the safety of the children in our care we have a Child Protection Policy. New legislation requires that we carry out a Police Check on everyone involved with young people. Please ensure your application is with us before 1st June to enable this to be completed in time for camp. References may also be taken up with your church minister.

Which outdoor holiday?

Please check out the camps page to see which one you would be most suitable for. We require leaders of all ages and experience, but we do have the following minimum ages;

  • Discovery holiday: minimum age 18
  • Explorer holiday: minimum age 16

Cost?

Because the leaders on our camps are volunteers we do not charge a fee, or pay any wages! However, leaders do cost us money. We would ask that you seriously consider and pray about making a contribution towards the cost of running camps.

To cover our costs we need to receive and average of £60 per leader. If you can give more then that will help cover the costs of those that can only give a small amount. You may make your contribution in more than one payment.

Qualifications

For general holiday leaders no specific qualifications are required. However, if you do have any of the following then that would be of great help;

  • St John's Lifesaver plus certificate
  • Health and Hygiene certificate
  • Youth Leader qualifications
  • Minibus driver training
